Tommy Dorsey Orchestra to Swing Across the Atlantic on Crystal's 2008 Big Band Cruise

LOS ANGELES /PRNewswire/ -- Luxury specialist Crystal Cruises has announced an extensive schedule of performances, dancing and onboard enrichment for its 2008 Big Band cruise, headlined by the legendary Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Aboard Crystal Serenity's November 21 transatlantic voyage from Lisbon to Miami, Big Band enthusiasts can enjoy musically themed lectures, swing lessons, trivia contests, tea dances and classic Big Band-themed films during the day, followed by daily live performances and evening dancing. Extra Ambassador Hosts ensure that all guests have dance partners.

"An ocean crossing with Crystal always offers superb service, luxury and extraordinary activities through our Creative Learning Institute," says Bret Bullock, Crystal's vice president, entertainment. "This year's Big Band voyage is jam packed with onboard options for music and dance lovers. Guests can take in lectures and dance lessons during the day, then dance the night away without missing a beat."

In addition to performing nightly, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra will host a Big Band Afternoon Teatime.

Grammy-nominated producer Dr. Robert G. O'Meally, director of the Center for Jazz Center at Columbia University, will lecture on a variety of subjects, including:

-- Battle of the Big Bands (Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey and Duke Ellington)

-- Big Band Singers Who Became Legends (Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday,
Ella Fitzgerald and the American Tradition in Singing)

-- The Jazz Cadence of American Culture: What's American About This Music
      That Sounds So Good?

Bill Boggs, Emmy Award-winning television host and producer, will present a salute to Frank Sinatra and the days of the Rat Pack, featuring classic performances and interviews with the "Chairman of the Board." On November 27, guests will also enjoy an authentic Thanksgiving feast with all of the trimmings.

From Lisbon to Miami, the cruise visits the Azores' Ponta Delgada and the Caribbean's Turks & Caicos. Ten-day cruise fares start at $3,145 per person, double occupancy.
