REGENT SEVEN SEAS CRUISES ANNOUNCES LAND ADVENTURES FOR 2007 ALASKAN VOYAGES
FT.LAUDERDALE (November 9, 2006) - Regent Seven Seas Cruises, voted the world's #1 large-ship cruise line by readers of Condé Nast Traveler, announces more than 75 Alaskan land adventures for 2007. Guests sailing aboard the 700-guest all-suite, all-balcony Seven Seas Mariner between Vancouver and Seward, Alaska can enjoy exciting port excursions ranging from touring an authentic Gold Rush boomtown to listening in on the underwater calls of whales and porpoises using a high-tech hydrophone.
Each Alaskan excursion is designed for a group of eight or fewer guests, ensuring the personalized experience for which Regent voyages are known. Highlights for 2007 include:
- "Dry Suit Snorkeling" (Sitka) - An underwater exploration of the colorful waters of Sitka Sound, home of a variety of crabs, sea stars, sea cucumbers and fish.
- "Extended Helicopter Glacier Trek" (Juneau) - A helicopter transports guests directly onto a glacier where the group is introduced to basic climbing techniques and together explores its most pristine and remote areas.
- "Whales & Forest Trails" (Juneau) - An eco-tour combining a rainforest hike with marine exploration - and guaranteed whale sightings. Guests will learn about the delicate eco-system of the Alaskan rainforest and later, get up close and personal with marine wildlife in a covered watercraft featuring a hydrophone to listen to the underwater sounds of whales.
- "Wilderness Guided Fly-Fishing" (Ketchikan) - Escape to the great Alaskan outdoors for a remote fly-fishing adventure for beginners and experts alike. Guests will visit Regent's privately-owned river valley and lake where they will not only have opportunities to catch chum, salmon or trout, but are also likely to spot black bears, bald eagles, deer and beaver. From May to mid-July, guests have the unique option of fly-fishing from their very own float tube.
- "Bear Viewing on Prince of Wales" (Ketchikan) - Board a floatplane to be transported to a quiet watershed on Prince of Wales Island, inhabited by the world's highest population of black bears.
- "Walk Up an Appetite" (Ketchikan) - A personalized tour and up-close look at this harbor town's maritime and Gold Rush history. The journey culminates with an exclusive seafood meal in a private dining room overlooking bustling Ketchikan Harbor.
- "Exchamsiks River Jet Boat & Helicopter Adventure" (Prince Rupert, B.C.) - Take a scenic drive through the Coast Mountains and along the valley of the mighty Skeena River, and a jet boat tour of the Exchamsiks, one of British Columbia's most pristine rivers. The tour offers potential for moose, bear and eagle sightings and features an outdoor salmon barbecue, followed by a helicopter tour.
- "Captain's Choice - Wildlife Quest & Beach Trek" (Sitka) - Climb aboard a deluxe expedition-style catamaran where the boat's captain will guide a personalized exploration of Sitka Sound, using the current tides and weather to devise an expedition uniquely suited to the day. Visit areas unreachable by conventional boat and later climb ashore a remote island to explore colorful tide pools.
- "Exclusively Yours - Alaska by Private Boat" (Sitka) - A beautiful 30-foot catamaran and a knowledgeable captain are at guests' command for a wide choice of activities featuring a stunning variety of wildlife and soul-stirring coastal scenery. Guests choose their own timeframe, activity and pace for this unique and personalized marine adventure.
- "Lake Bennet Train and Stampeder's Way Trek" (Skagway) - Board the "Scenic Railroad of the World" to Lake Bennet, end of the Chilkoot Trail for the Klondikers over 100 years ago. Enjoy an exhilarating hike up "Stampeder's Way" with a professional guide, followed by a sumptuous and (well-earned) "Backcountry Buffet."
Additionally, guests can extend their Alaskan journey through a wide selection of pre- and post-cruise land and hotel programs. One of the most popular, the Alaska Fishing trip, has been enhanced for 2007 and includes a full-day fishing charter and helicopter or float plane transfers to fishing sights; one night accommodations at The Hotel Captain Cook and two nights accommodations at Alaska's Wilderness Lodge, both in Anchorage; a private tour of Anchorage including a light lunch and visit with a local artist; and round-trip air Anchorage/Kenai. Cost is $3,525 per person, double occupancy, or $4,970 for single accommodations. An angler's dream come true, this experience provides some of the world's most incredible fishing and a chance to reel in some of the largest game fish on Earth.
Through its newly expanded Regent Travel Concierge, featuring one-on-one concierge services and tools for guests to customize their travel programs, guests have virtually limitless options for personalized land experience - from a private wild bear viewing to an aerial tour of the glaciers or extended pre- or post-cruise adventure. All land adventures must be pre-booked through a travel professional or Regent's reservations center.
